I love Melbourne Museum. It's one of the places I recommend when I meet visitors to this city, and You Can't Do That Exhibition speaks of the audacious Australian and particularly Melbournian spirit I am coming to know and love.
Whilst the clothes are stylish and interesting, this exhibition is about much more than fashion design. It's about how we make progress as a people on this planet. It's about creativity and culture and conflict and conviction. It's about how we create the future.
Whether you style your hair at home or in a salon, you can keep your hair looking exactly the same by wearing a Silky Nights-Nightcap while sleeping.
Since I was young I've always been on a bit of a mission to change the world for the better. It's who I am and how I live and when I trained as a youth worker I knew I'd be helping young people in their pursuit of a better world. Now as a mother I'm keenly aware of the challenge ahead- to inspire my own offspring to be cultural pioneers as they pursue their own potential in the context of a world in need of revolutionary change. And that's why I love this exhibition. When everyone's first response was 'You Can't Do That!' these designers hitback with revolutions in fashion. I don't know about you but this is the kind of human I want to be and raise. Read these words and shout them from the rooftops!
Yes you can
Call me crazy but I'm starting now with my kiddies. They won't understand the depth of this exhibition for sure, but I need to hear this rallying cry myself and surely a climate of hope is the best kind of climate for them to grow up in. So go, take your sons, take your daughters, take everyone you know. On until 15 July.
