Winter in Fed Square 2016

Don't fret about the cold weather, rug up and head to Fed Square, for an exciting program of winter celebrations to warm your soul.

The program will see something happen every day, from musical performances to storytelling, Friday night concerts, live DJs morning meditations around the campfire and a pop up outdoor ice skating rink on the Yarra!

What's on this winter in Fed Square:

There is no better place for children and teens to let their imaginations run wild these school holidays, than the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA), which has holiday programs on offer.
The Melbourne Crochet Club meets on a regular basis to learn crochet, meet other local mums, and to have a good chat. Whether you're a complete beginner or a seasoned pro, everyone is welcome to come along.
The Light in Winter
1 June – 17 July, 2016

Both modern and traditional light displays will bring
Fed Square to life.

Indigenous artist Reko Rennie’s amazing light projection, last seen during White Night 2016, will return after popular acclaim from Thursday 2 June until Sunday 5 June.

An inflatable Sonic Light Bubble, created by Melbourne-based, award winning art and design practice ENESS, will be debuting at Fed Square as part of the winter program. Enjoy a giant, inflatable see-through dome with motion responsive LED lights on the outside, as the bubble transforms into a fun and interactive experience.

Do you want to learn how to knit? Or have recently started and would like to meet some new friends to share your creativity with, all while having a good chat? Melbourne Knitting Club has classes for you.
The Geelong Crochet Club meets on a regular basis to learn crochet, meet other local mums, and to have a good chat. Whether you're a complete beginner or a seasoned pro, everyone is welcome to come along.
Campfire
2 June – 17 July, 2016

Nothing speaks winter more than a cosy campfire, and Fed Square recognises that. The Campfire in Fed Square celebrates indigenous culture, with a special ceremony to light the fire on 2 June with an Indigenous Welcome to Country.

The fire will burn continuously for the duration of the winter program, which will see the Campfire as the centre point.

There will be live performances, storytelling, learning and sharing around the campfire every Thursday and Friday night over the course of the festivities (2 June – 17July).

Winter Solstice Celebrations
Saturday 18 June, 2016

The Saturday closest to the shortest day of the year is Winter Solstice, an ancient celebration that signifies the rebirthing of the sun.

Fed Square will host a Winter Solstice celebration into the night. The evening of the Winter Solstice celebration will feature some specific installations, performance and roving artists, sharing their vision of the world through the lens of the modern world.

River Rink in Fed Square
18 June – 17 July, 2016

After the success of last year's ice rink in the heart of the city, Yarra River’s terrace will once again transform to a sensational site of open air skating fun this winter.

River Rink in Fed Square will be open from 18 June to 17 July, 10am – 10pm every day, and skaters of all levels are welcome. Tickets are on sale to the public from 1 June 2016. Prices for kids start at $12.50 for a 45 minute session. The ticket price includes skate hire.
