Encouraging kids to eat healthy food isn't necessary when it tastes as good as it looks! Here at Sunny Ridge the strawberries are some of the biggest i've ever seen, they smell amazing and the taste can only be described as sensational!

Recently we visited the strawberry farm to pick our own strawberries from the field to take home and enjoy with family and friends.

We arrived not long after opening time on a Sunday morning to beat the crowds and I'm glad we did as the buses started to roll in shortly afterwards. It certainly is a very popular place to visit, especially in the summer holidays!

You pay for entry up front and receive a container and directions on which field to pick the strawberries from. Entry costs $9 for adults (includes 500 grams of strawberries), $4 for kids 4-12 years (includes 250 grams of strawberries) or $22 for a family of 4.

Although it's not the cheapest way to buy strawberries, U-Pick is good family fun and it offers the kids a chance to become more connected to where some of their food comes from, you won't get that from visiting a supermarket!

Some questions to get the kids thinking could include:
  • Which ones should we pick? Which ones do we leave for another day?
  • How many strawberries are in our container?
  • Why are they planted in rows?
  • Why is the strawberry farm only open from November to April?
  • Do strawberries ripen after being picked?
  • Why are there white flowers on the plants?

  • The possible questions are endless!

After you pick some strawberries you might like to enjoy some of the sweet strawberry treats from the cafe such as the strawberry kebabs, strawberry ice cream sundae or fresh scones with... you guessed it, strawberry jam and cream!

You will also find freshly picked berries for sale in the shop along with frozen berries, Sunny Ridges infamous freeze dried chocolate coated strawberries, jams, preserves, ciders and much, much more!
