Libraries are changing. Pay a visit to Ringwood's newest Library Complex the REALM and you'll see how.

Located within the Town Square, which makes up part of Eastland Shopping Centre's hub, the REALM Library Complex is a community space offering a range of activity spaces for all ages.

Designed by The Buchan Group and opened in the early part of 2016, the REALM is a modern building with three levels accessed by a central staircase and an elevator.

My son and I stumbled upon the REALM accidentally. We're not local to Ringwood but happened to be in the area to try out the pop-up ice skating rink in the Town Square over the winter months.

I asked a local staff member if the amazing looking building in the Town Square housed a food court. To my surprise I was told no, it's the local library.

After a bite to eat in the gorgeous Caffe Stazione attached to the library (to reiterate, yes a yummy Italian cafe located within the library complex!) we stepped inside the REALM to explore.

First we enjoyed the current art exhibition in the ArtSpace.

Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria’s hugely popular, free cubby building event, Botanica is returning to Melbourne Gardens this summer, along with a host of new activities for families.
Next we stepped upstairs to the children’s area, complete with kid's computers and software, interactive digital games and sensory play experiences.

There's a cute seating arrangement in the kid's area with a little nook for tots to snuggle up and hide with a book if they want to.

Back downstairs and we took advantage of the free gaming area. While this is aimed at youths, my little one and I battled it out playing a Batman LEGO video game. You don't need to be a member of the library to play, you just need to show some form of photo ID to get access to a controller or two.

All of the aforementioned activities in the library are free, as are:

Mario Maker Mondays for 8 - 15 year olds.
Tiny Tots Story Time
Toddlers Story Time
Preschool Story Time
Author talks and occasional workshops
