Playspace for the 0 - 5 year olds at Scienceworks

Although it is sad to see Scienceworks say goodbye to their much-loved Nitty Gritty Super City, there's a reason to be excited by the change.

Melbourne's world-renowned science museum has announced the addition of a brand new playground.

A STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) play space dedicated to the 0 to 5 year-olds is a $2.5million interactive exhibition. Ground Up: Building Big Ideas Together is an environment to challenge all senses, with Tinkering Zone for tots to 3 year-olds and a Collaborative Zone designed for 3 to 5 year-olds.

Toddlers can try their hands at open-ended activities such as creating contraptions to fly in wind tubes, stacking and sorting custom-made blocks on a colourful light table, and practicing foundational coding skills such as sequencing and critical thinking. The play area also sees the installation of a light-up switch wall to help develop fine motor skills and logical thinking.

The 3 to 5 year-olds are challenged in the Collaborative Zone to use communication and social skills to solve problems. Pre-schoolers have access to large-scale construction and simple machinery and will be encouraged to work together.

You and your family are invited to a Photography for Parents Workshop on Sunday 9th September 2018 at Fitzroy Gardens.

In addition to Ground Up: Building Big Ideas Together , a $3.75 million immersive permanent exhibition is underway to educate secondary school age and beyond. This exhibition will engage young adults in science through revealing the invisible world of wave forms.
