Child-friendly Nature Bar wins Frankston's Burger Off Competition!

In August, Frankston City ran a citywide Burger Off promotion to encourage residents to dine in local restaurants and cafes during the winter months. There were 31 burgers to vote for and could only be voted for by a resident who purchased an eligible burger during the promotional period. The perks for the winning burger were bragging rights and a comprehensive marketing and communication package to support their business!

We’re not a stranger to a burger at all and know this is some tough competition. Many of the entrants were exclusively a burger destination and entries included unique twists on the classics and some creative entries such as rice buns, gelato burger and even a vegan lentil burger. One would expect that a beef patty, with melted oozing cheese and bacon would be the winning combination! That’s the first image that comes to mine when you think of a burger.

However, you’ll be surprised to know that the winning burger was a vegan burger! We’re shocked but also thrilled with these results. Some would argue, this is a sandwich and that’s a valid argument, but it still came ahead of traditional burgers, with over 500 votes cast in total during the promotional period.

We congratulate Nature Café/Bar on their “Stayin’ Alive” burger (pictured above). They refer to it as ‘juicy, crunchy, tasty, filling and healthy!’ The public agrees! The special burger for the promotion included a lentil and vegi patty, grilled pineapple, mustard mayo, tomato, caramelised onion jam, hummus, lettuce, cucumber and alfalfa in a beetroot bun and it sounds delicious!

Riley Murphy (pictured below on the right), better known as Chompamatic, is local to the area and was heavily involved in the promotion. Riley is very active in the burger community and his role in this promotion was to try all entries. While the winner wasn’t his top pick, he ate his first vegan burger at Nature Café and absolutely loved it!

We advocate balanced eating, especially when it comes to modelling behaviour for young children. We aren’t vegan, but are delighted that a healthy burger was voted by the public. This is great news in the right direction for healthier eating. There were many voters in the promotion who came to celebrate the burgers victory once it was announced on Facebook! The general consensus is that it was well deserved and a very enjoyable burger.

Nature Cafe/Bar offer healthy dishes that taste as good as they look. They are reinventing vegetarian and vegan food, making it appealing to anyone who is after a healthy meal. They’re child friendly and a great place to take the kids to try beautiful and colourful healthy food. The burger is staying on their menu for good too, so use this as an opportunity to visit with the kids and try out their delicious food.
