Having just got back from a family holiday at Pambula Beach (10km from Merimbula) in N.S.W, I thought I'd share our travels with you.

To break up the 7 1/2 hour drive for the children we decided it was best to take our time getting to our destination and split the travelling time over two days. Our halfway point for the first night away was a villa in the sleepy little village of Metung, a very cute, touristy fishing town in the heart of the Gippsland Lakes (only 20 min from Lakes Entrance).

We chose to stay at the [Link http://www.metungholidayvillas.com/ ] which is located about 1.5km from the main village and unfortunately misses out on any water views, but it was a great excuse to get the kids out for a walk after we arrived to go and explore the village.

Our villa was a two bedroom superior villa that slept 6 people (a queen bed in the main room and 4 bunks in the other). The villa was spotlessly clean and had everything that we could possibly need for a night away. After a long day with excited children I particularly liked the comfy L shaped lounge and the fast Wi-Fi (free). The kids loved the little playground and the pool (heated to 26 degrees year round).

Accommodation ranges includes:
  • Budget Villas
  • Family Villa 2 bedrooms
  • Family Villa 3 bedrooms
  • Superior Villa 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom (our choice)
  • Superior Villa 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms
  • Luxury Villa 2 bedroom, 2 ensuites

  • As a guide, our villa off peak on a Saturday night cost $200 for 6 people booked through Wotif.

For anyone with pets, you may be excited to know that Metung Villas have recently become 'pet friendly'.

We really enjoyed our stay in Metung and were particularly impressed at the new waterpark and playground in the village centre.

    Tips:
  • Take something with you to cook for dinner on the BBQ or in the villa. The Metung Hotel is a lovely spot and one of the few places open for dinner, but for a family it's expensive.
  • Check out the Metung bakery (highly recommended) for a yummy treat to take on the road. We got a fruit bun and some bread for a picnic in the park at Cann River.

  • Overall, a stopover at the comes highly recommended from our family.
