Christmas is a great time to be in Melbourne. The weather is warming up and there are magical events popping up all over the city to celebrate.

Not sure where to go or what to do to entertain your family in the lead up to Christmas? Look no further. Here is an overview of what's on and when in Melbourne this festive season.

Gingerbread Village by Epicure

Now in its ninth year, Gingerbread Village promises to be the biggest and best display yet.

This festive season, visit the Gingerbread Village in a brand new location at St. Collins Lane (only 2 minutes walk from the Melbourne Town Hall), with plenty of activities organised for the kids.

Entry to the Gingerbread Village is by nominal gold coin donation, with all proceeds going to the Royal Children's Hospital.

Sugar Republic's Christmasland

Just in time for the silly season, Sugar Republic’s Christmasland is popping up in Fitzroy showcasing 10 immersive and exclusively designed spaces.

To add to the Christmas cheer, local partnering artists have handcrafted and recycled items for whimsical backdrops and fun family photos.

Carols by Candlelight

Carols by Candlelight is Melbourne's annual Christmas concert and fundraiser for Vision Australia’s children’s services.

Held on Christmas Eve, 24 December, at the Sydney Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne,10,000 people attend each year to celebrate the magic of Christmas. The event is broadcast live on Channel 9, 3AW radio and Vision Australia Radio.

When: Gates open at 4pm. Show starts at 8pm Christmas Eve, 24 December 2019.

Myer Christmas Windows

Family visits to the Myer Christmas Windows has been a tradition for 64 years. This year the theme is The Gum Nut Babies by Australian author and illustrator May Gibbs.

Frankston's Christmas Festival of Lights 2019

Frankston’s Christmas Festival of Lights event returns to the city for its 22nd year.

This annual Christmas event features free festive activities including a live theatre experience of The Grinch Christmas Show, Main Stage performances with Kylie Auldist headlining, Minions Meet and Greet, Christmas Kids activities at Frankston Library and most importantly visits with Santa at Cube 37.

This year’s lighting of Frankston City’s spectacular century-old Norfolk Pine Christmas Tree will be the most epic yet - one lucky child will have the honour of participating in the tree lighting ceremony. This is followed by a spectacular fireworks display.
