Do you remember a simpler time, before iPads and smartphones, when you went out with the family to do something outside? Why not get away from the screens for a while and go on a 45 minute stroll through a quiet Nature Reserve?
Only 25 minutes from Mornington is the Main Ridge Nature Reserve, a small woodland located not far from Arthur's Seat and Red Hill. Parks Victoria website
The trail itself is wide enough to walk 2 abreast, easy going with minimal hills, and best of all, less then 3km around. Even with a little protesting from our 4yr old, we made it around in 45 minutes.
As with most reserves, no pets are allowed, so don't bring the dog along. They would scare off the wildlife anyway. We saw many birds on our way around, with the kids trying to find the most beautiful feathers that were on the trail.
With the Sunny Ridge Strawberry Farm almost opposite the nature reserve and the all new Skylift at Arthurs Seat only a few minutes away, you could easily make a day of it with the many things to do in the area.
The Main Ridge Nature Reserve is at 71/79 Barkers Rd, Flinders and is open all year round. It's free, and you don't need to bring anything other than a drink bottle.
