Hey Jack! Book Review

by kateG (follow)
Towards the end of Mr 6ís four-year old kinder year, I asked his teacher for suggestions of things to keep him amused over the summer holiday and help prepare him for the start of school. One of the first things she suggested was the Hey Jack! Books.

It didnít take us long to find the Hey Jack! Collection that comprises 15 books. Each story follows the adventures of a boy called Jack and his best friend Billie B.

These short, chaptered stories are about Jack's experience in every day events, such as a sleep over, a new teacher, a birthday party, camping and more.

In each book, author, Sally Rippin, has cleverly used Jack to highlight the range of emotions any child might feel on a day-to-day basis when they find themselves in these situations. Emotions include feeling nervous, happy, excited, worried and many more.

While these books are aimed at early readers, the G boys enjoy hearing the stories and can also relate to them.

Six months on and Mr 6 has now started to read these books on his own. They have helped us talk about feelings in certain situations.

So itís fair to say that the Hey Jack! collection gets the big thumbs up from us!
