Griffith University needs parents to take part in important research about sleep.

Are you the parent of a child aged between 3 and 12 years? Griffith University is interested in hearing about your child’s sleep, bedtime behaviours and about your family well-being.

This online survey (GU Ref Number 2019/785) will take parents about 30 minutes to complete. Anyone who completes the survey can go in the draw to win ONE of TEN $50 gift vouchers to selected Australian retailers!

The link to the survey is [link http://tiny.cc/ljkakz here].

Why is this research important?

This research is being conducted by Griffith University and the University of Southern Queensland to investigate sleep problems in young children aged 3-12.

Sleep problems in young children are highly prevalent and are unlikely to remit without treatment. They can also lead to a range of mental health and academic problems, and are very disruptive to parents and families.

The researchers are interested in understanding the characteristics of good sleep behaviour. They are also aiming to measure and track the nature and impact of sleep problems, so that treatment can be better tailored to the needs of individual families.

Study outcomes will provide new directions for improving the measurement of child related sleep problems, and subsequently could help to improve the way sleep related issues are assessed and treated in young Australians.

What’s involved for parents?

Participants will be required to fill out a 30 minute questionnaire. You will answer questions about you, your child, and family life, along with your child’s sleep behaviour, general behaviour and your own experiences as a parent.

Within the survey, you will also have the option to consent to participating in a short, 20-minute phone interview with a clinician to discuss your child’s sleep related behaviour. You also have the option of participating in a short follow up survey.

Researchers have also started a Facebook page where they will share opportunities for sleep research participation and tips about sleep, which you can find [LINK fb.me/griffithsleep].

Alternatively, you can email the team at [email protected] with any questions about the study.
