Go on…give yourself a gift for getting through 2020

2020 has been an absolutely unprecedented and very tough year that we are coming to the end of, finally. We’ve been challenged by lockdowns, home schooling, anxious fears about our health, separated from loved ones and faced changes in the way we live our daily lives, some of which may last for the foreseeable future. Just in time for Christmas though, many of us are taking the opportunity to do something for ourselves, something we may have never done before.

We’re talking about cosmetic procedures.

Getting the summer body that you want has never been so easy or so popular. Tummy tucks, liposuction, Brazilian butt lifts and breast reductions are being booked out across the country.

In fact, the uptake of surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures has seen a significant spike and continues to be on the rise since lockdowns were lifted. Due to the ever-growing presence of social media, more and more Aussies are spending money on improving their image. On average, Australians are spending more than 1 billion dollars annually on cosmetic surgery*.

While video conferencing technology kept many business teams together and enabled people to work properly during the peaks of Covid-19, it meant that many people were faced with staring at themselves on screen for many hours a day. This has led to people comparing their appearance more with others, noticing unusual facial features or increased wrinkles and resulting in more people wanting to conduct cosmetic procedures.

A study conducted in the UK found that “53 percent of adults and 58 percent of people aged under 18 reported that the coronavirus lockdown restrictions made them feel "worse" or "much worse" about their appearance.”

In addition, as overseas holidays are still off the table until who knows when, people are choosing to spend this disposable income on themselves in a different way.

“We have seen a significant increase in the number of people booking in for procedures over the past few months, particularly in time for summer,” says Cosmetic Surgeon, Dr Mark Atalla. “The most popular ‘summer body’ procedures are liposuction, tummy tucks, breast reductions and Brazilian butt lifts. Our innovative non-surgical skin rejuvenation procedures are also very effective and we’re seeing a greater uptake of these in our clinic.”
