Dsmile - Turn Your Dental Routine Into a Ritual
How many teeth do you need to floss? Only the ones you want to keep!
Re-defining oral health outcomes with an at-home personalised dental care system
Dr Joseph Badr is no stranger to seeing decaying, hygiene problems up close. In over 25 years of practising dentistry, he has observed an increasing amount of oral health issues, despite repeated attempts to change the everyday cleaning habits of his dental clients.
According to Australia’s Adult Oral Health Tracker published by the Australian Dental Association, only 53% of Australian adults brush their teeth twice a day. An alarming statistic that reveals true routine behaviour in regards to our oral health.*
Inspired by his commitment to finding a better pathway to better dental health, Dr Badr set out to create an at-home personalised care system that would ultimately lead to improved oral health outcomes and also help provide dental care and advice to those most in need: those who cannot afford access to dental care or those who are most at risk of dental problems due to their socio-economic status.
Dr Badr has developed Dsmile, a new three-step daily dental ritual designed to enhance oral health and wellbeing. It is a superior, professionally-formulated product that is Australian designed and owned and is environmentally reusable and recyclable.
Dsmile offers a one-off or subscription-based membership which is delivered to the customer every three months.
Recently awarded a prestigious Good Design Award for outstanding design and innovation, Dsmile’s products highlight an appreciation for native ingredients by including Australian mint leaf extract in the gluten, sugar and SLS-free vegan formulas.
Why has Dr Badr created this “at-home” product when he is a dentist and could benefit from seeing patients more often?
Born in a small town in Lebanon, as one of 7 children, Joseph was brought up to appreciate and be grateful for every day by his mother. Having lived through a civil war this brought a strong sense of playing his part to give back to society by doing something impactful and positive. “I believe there is a better way to deliver improved dental health outcomes with the minimum cost to the individual and the community”
Dr Badr says. “It is a value based model to dental health with focus on prevention, education and early intervention.”
The fact that 1 in 8 (12%) Australians have delayed seeing or did not see a dental professional at least once in the last 12 months due to COVID-19*, means that there are a significant number of people walking around with potential oral health problems.
Dsmile flips the way we’ve originally thought about brushing our teeth on its head. With its aesthetic product design and professional grade products it creates a positive daily dental ritual that is habitual and leaves teeth feeling noticeably cleaner and healthier.
Dr Badr has extended his vision by also creating Dsmile Care; a 100% not-for-profit initiative that delivers immediate and trusted dental advice at no cost from the comfort of your home. With 1 out of 7 Australians reporting that they delayed or did not see a dental professional in the last 12 months due to the cost*, this confirms there is a significant gap in dental health provision.
Dr Badr believes that “every Australian should have access to the best in dental health care”
. “Through a simple live chat, phone or video call you can receive free advice from a dental professional anywhere in Australia."
