Years ago now, when my first child reached pre-school, he struggled a little with finding his own way.
During his time in kinder, he would 'follow the crowd' rather than choose to do what he wanted to do, and sometimes that would lead him to trouble!
His teacher picked up on this, and proposed that I seek out children's books related to being a leader and not a follower. Without any book title suggestions, I didn't know what to look for. I asked at my local library, but the librarians were equally stumped.
Molena Learning is a new interactive stimulating structured playgroup for Melbourne mums.
Then I remembered, a blog by the name of Children's Books Daily managed by Brisbane based school librarian, Megan. Children's Books Daily is a special online place dedicated to reading with children. It is here you will find reviews of children's books, suggestions for specific books, as well as tips and advice.
I reached out to Megan, to ask if she had a book suggestion for my son. I thought if anyone would know, Megan would, and I was right.
Two books Megan suggested:
Bea by Christine Sharp
Bea by Christine Sharp
"Bea is a great publication and I've really loved using it with my preps (who are five, some who are four). It's a lovely story about a bird who chooses his/her own path. They have really understood the concept which to me is a big thumbs up for it!"%% Megan said.
"It's the story of a cow who is born looking not like all the other cows (nothing wrong per se, just doesn't have a white 'belt'). He struggles with this but in the end he ends up being the 'leader' of all the cows. I really love it! The Little Big Book Club had it as one of their recommended titles HERE" said Megan.
Big thanks to Megan, who helped me find the right books for a tricky suggestion! Suffice to say, my son and I enjoyed both books, and luckily now we are no longer fighting that battle!
I recommend you check out Children's Books Daily's yourself if you love kids books and enjoy reading with your children. You can search Megan's book reviews, which are categorised from babies right through to young adult. Because Megan has been writing Children's Books Daily for many years now, there's a whole heap of great book recommendations to get through. Find Children's Books Daily ONLINE and on Facebook
