Just before Christmas last year we decided to take the kids cherry picking at Chappies U-Pick cherry farm for something a little bit different to do in the Dandenong Ranges before having a picnic at the Silvan Reservoir.
As you can see from the photos, they loved it!
The trees were absolutely loaded with juicy, plump, red cherries with their branches bending under the weight. The kids could barely believe their eyes as they eagerly scoured the trees looking for 'the best' cherries to pick. They were all perfect though and we ended up with about 4kg of cherries to take home for Christmas day.
Whilst we just picked cherries when we visited, they also have raspberries and blackberries.
Entry is $10 for adults, $5 kids and free for preschool aged. Fruit that you've handpicked cost a very reasonable $10per kilo (including berries). Please note: buckets are provided for use (free of charge) but you can take your own container if you wish.
Chappies U-Pick orchard is located at 21 Parker Rd, Silvan, which is around 50km East of Melbourne in the Dandenong Ranges. Driving time is just under one hour away.
Chappies are open daily from mid-November to 31st of January (except Christmas Day) from 8:30am to 5pm. Please check Chappies Facebook page or website before venturing for updates.
Bambini Early Learning Centres are set to host the Bayside Treasure Hunt and Open Day on Saturday 8th December. Families can get their thinking caps on and look for clues around any of the Bayside centres, with the chance to win a $1000 JB Hi-Fi voucher, just in time for Christmas!
