Toddlers and train enthusiasts will love this little miniature railway in Box Hill
Box Hill Miniature Steam Railway is a delightful little dual gauge railway track that has been open to the public since 1985. Society members started construction of the 1.25km railway track back in 1983 and have continued to open to the public on the 3rd Sunday of each month between 11am - 4pm.
We visited on Sunday for the first time and the verdict from our son was "this is awesome, how cool would it be to work here when I'm older!"
We arrived just before 11am and found a car park within 50 meters of the railway despite it being fairly busy already. The ticket box opened at 11am on the dot, and train drivers had their little trains prepped and ready for the first rides of the day.
The lines moved quickly and everyone seemed to be having a lovely time. We decided to purchase a 20 ride pass for $50 as our children wanted to "go on all of the trains!" but single rides are only $3 each.
After the train rides we took the kids for a play in the adjoining train playground.
Box Hill Miniature Railway Society is non-profit organisation that has an amazing team of volunteers that keep this wonderful track open to the public. Money from ticket sales is used to improve and maintain the railway, and to assist various charity groups.

A day at the Melbourne Zoo is always an adventure and for a week in February, there will be added excitement with kids able to "virtually visit" the habitats of animals that call Melbourne's waterways home.
