A visit to a country show is a fun and much more affordable alternative to a day spent at a major show in one of Australia’s capital cities. In comparison to the chaos, confusion and ridiculous prices of these big city events, country shows are held on a smaller, much more manageable scale, providing plenty of family-friendly excitement at a fraction of the cost.
Coming up at the end of February, Berwick Show is one such event. Taking place in Berwick, just 41 kilometres south-east of Melbourne’s CBD, the show is a vibrant city-meets-country experience, with all the traditional country show favourites such as horse events and farm animal exhibits (including cattle, sheep, poultry, sheep, goats and alpacas), as well as loads of cool things for the kids to see and do.

Both adults and youngsters will love the wide variety of fairground rides that will be available, as well as the excitement of Sideshow Alley and its classic amusements such as ghost trains, laughing clowns and shooting galleries. Major rides will cost between $10 and $15, while children’s rides will be priced at between $5 and $7. Special deals will also be available for multiple rides.
Berwick Show will take place over two days – Saturday February 25 (9.00am – 9.00pm) and Sunday February 26 (9.00am – 5.00pm). This year’s admission charges are $20 for adults, $15 for concession card holders and $10 for children aged 10 to 15 years old. Children under 10 will be admitted free of charge. Family tickets (for two adults and two children) can also be purchased at $40. Early bird tickets will be available soon on the show’s website.
Berwick Show will be held at Akoonah Park on the Princes Highway in Berwick. To find out more, check out the Berwick Show website.
