Recently my family took to the road; the Great Ocean Road, to enjoy a long weekend away.
Rather than book a hotel or cabin; our usual go-to choices, we found a suitable family-friendly Airbnb to reserve instead.
The accommodation we chose was a self-catering holiday house in Marengo just a short distance from Apollo Bay but far away enough to be out of the main hustle and bustle.
Breakers Bar in Marengo
This was our first Airbnb experience and I have to say we were really impressed.
The house could sleep up to 6. We had to bring our own sheets, but that was fine considering everything else was catered for.
The children loved having extra outdoor private space to run around and we were a short stroll from the rather beautiful Marengo ocean beach.
With a fully functional kitchen complete with all the necessities to cook ourselves, this gave us the flexibility to relax if we wanted to rather than rush out to find food if the kids were hungry. Handy really, because we chose to visit on a holiday weekend when a lot of places were booked out for dinner.
Apollo Bay is a great spot to take your family. The town itself is fully equipped for everything you might need and if you're after natural wonder you're in the right place. We went koala spotting and found plenty driving to Cape Otway, a wallaby too. The Redwood Forest isn't too far away, there are waterfalls to find and the 12 Apostles are an hour and twenty minutes in the car.
If you're looking for a place to say with your family in Apollo Bar, consider reserving the Breakers Bar as we did. You'll get more bang for your buck when you compare to prices to hotels in the area.
