New online learning program - ABC Reading Eggs Junior - teams up with Aussie actress and international star Tammin Sursok.
Hugely popular online reading program ABC Reading Eggs is proud to announce the launch of a new offshoot – ABC Reading Eggs Junior – and has named former Home and Away star turned international success story Tammin Sursok as their new ambassador.
ABC Reading Eggs Junior is specifically aimed at young kids aged two to four. It’s the most comprehensive early learning program for children and has been carefully designed by experienced educators. As mum to three-year-old daughter Phoenix, Tammin, 34, is a huge supporter of kids developing reading skills early on in life, and says ABC Reading Eggs Junior has been greatly beneficial and enjoyable for her daughter.
“I’m passionate about books, learning and literacy and want to encourage Phoenix to develop a love for reading which is why I’m so happy to spreading the word about ABC Reading Eggs Junior,” says Tammin. “Phoenix really enjoys the program and has gotten so much out of it.”
We asked Tammin a few questions to help inspire us to encourage a love of reading in our little ones!
1. Why do you think it's so important for kids to learn to love reading early on?
I think education is so important and that being able to read and develop a love for books from a
young age is vital. We’re living in a fast-paced world now and kids really need to be able to grasp
concepts about all sorts of things. Reading and communication is so fundamental to everything that I feel the sooner you start the better.
2. Which books does your four-year- old daughter Phoenix love?
I like to have lots of kids’ books around so Phoenix can just pick them up and look through them whenever she wants. Her favourite ones are The Giving Tree, The Cat and the Caterpillar and The Airport Book – that one’s a particular favourite because of all the travelling she does with me and my husband!
3. Do you have any tips on how to encourage kids to read?
We have always read lots of books to Phoenix, particularly at night before bed, but also at other
times during the day. We like having a ‘cosy reading time’ with her where we get to chill out
together. By making this regularly time to read to her, she really looks forwards to the stories so I
think all kids could benefit from that.
I also think it’s great to let your kids loose in a library or bookstore every now and then and see what kind of books they gravitate towards. Nurture those interests so they become naturally interested in certain subjects. I have always loved browsing through bookstores, although once I had a very embarrassing experience there. I was in a Barnes and Noble bookstore in LA when Phoenix had a poo explosion. At that moment someone asked for a picture of me and I was like, um I can’t do this right now before I ran out! It was very un-opportune timing.
4. Does Phoenix have a favourite video/game/song on ABC Reading Eggs Junior?
She just loves all the animations, games and e-books. She’s learning so much about letters, sounds and phonics and it’s really helped spark her interest even more in books.
I try to limit screen time just to weekends as I don’t want Phoenix’s face constantly stuck in a screen.
However, I also think that we need to move with the times – apps and computers are constantly
used now in schools so I think all kids need to get a little tech-savvy. I love ABC Reading Eggs Junior because not only is it lots of fun, it’s also educational and is the perfect fit for Phoenix as it’s
specifically for kids aged two to four.
With ABC Reading Eggs Junior, children will learn about words, sounds and letters as they explore a whole world of delightful activities, fun alphabet games, videos, songs and online picture books that will nurture a sense of joy and wonder, as well as putting them on an early path to reading success.
