3 Restaurants in Melbourne Bayside that are listening to Parents

Kids For Dinner - Kid Friendly Restaurant Directory & Advice Column
Restaurants in Melbourne Bayside given the thumbs up for kid-friendly menus

I have been exposed to a large number of kidís menus and I can honestly tell you, that once you see one, youíve seen them all! Why is this?

From the very beginning of life, babies are attracted to sweet flavours (like breast milk) and they also like salty tastes. They dislike sour and bitter tastes. They have a preference for familiar tastes over new tastes, which explains why introducing new foods to toddlers can be challenging. Restaurants know this!

Do you want to learn how to knit? Or have recently started and would like to meet some new friends to share your creativity with, all while having a good chat? Melbourne Knitting Club has classes for you.
The Geelong Crochet Club meets on a regular basis to learn crochet, meet other local mums, and to have a good chat. Whether you're a complete beginner or a seasoned pro, everyone is welcome to come along.
Restaurants create menus that are favoured by childrenís developing taste buds and mainly include menu options such as Chicken Nuggets with chips, Crumbed or Battered Fish with chips and Pasta. I believe that there is a place on the menu for these items and this has been confirmed by over 100 mothers in a short survey I recently conducted.

Many parents have young and fussy eaters and if offered an alternative, they face their child rejecting the meal. Parents also feel that children should enjoy the occasional treat when dining out and should be able to choose a meal they love. Most parents raised their concerns that they would prefer their child eat something else.

Noticeably, there has been a growing need from parents for restaurants to offer healthier options on menus. However, they find that restaurants are reluctant to alter menus or donít feel confident making such requests.

I have built some fantastic relationship with restaurant owners and have found genuine restaurants that have found that balance to keep both children and parents happy.

Here are our top 3 picks:

Harryís Schnitzel & Grill (Cheltenham)

The owners of this venue are very welcoming to kids and their menu reflects this. Their kidís menu offers char grilled tenderloins, home made popcorn chicken, mini schnitzels and mini parmas. All their offerings are available with chips or one of their daily salads.

Harry is a passionate butcher who followed his passion for food to open his own restaurant. The schnitzels are hand cut and crumbed by Harry, then marinated in buttermilk for 24 hours. The schnitzels are moist on the inside and the crumb doesnít soften under the load of toppings. Speaking of toppings, they offer over 10 toppings to choose from. They also offer a wonderful char grilled chicken base or falafel waffle.

They tick all the boxes by offering the amenities you need to keep the kids happy, such as colouring in, family sized booths, high chairs and room for prams!

Le Feu (Aspendale)

This restaurant is also a big hit with the kids. They offer French Inspired Vietnamese, which is a great change from Modern Australian food. Their kidís menu is fantastic, offering Crunchy Beef Bao with taro chips, Calamari with taro chips, Chicken Wings with taro chips, Pho (Beef, Chicken or Vegetarian) and Fried Rice.

As understanding parents, they have been very open to altering the menu to rice instead of taro chips. They also offer plastic tableware, prompt friendly service and fantastic options menu options for the adults. They also offer early dining options, but have a 6pm and 8pm seating for Friday and Saturday dinner services.

Their kidís menu offers a little pack with a fish bite, potato cake, calamari with chips or rice, calamari with chips or rice and grilled lamb or chicken skewer with chips or rice.

They make mum and dad happy with the usual classics available grilled too! They offer a great mix of gourmet seafood options, souvlaki, burgers and will make any seafood lover happy.
