Have you been to the Melbourne Museum lately? If you haven't, make sure you add Victoria's state museum of natural and cultural history to your list of places to visit in the summer school holidays.

Melbourne Museum

Melbourne Museum, located in Carlton Gardens adjacent to the stunning Royal Exhibition Building, is jam packed with interesting facts, interactive displays and educational fun to entertain your kids.

This summer, Melbourne Museum will host a HOOT-tastic program of owl related holiday adventures and activities. The educational feathered fun will incur no extra costs, because the activities are incorporated within your museum entry fee. The following program will run from 26 December 2015 until 26 January 2016.

Bird Watching and Discovery

Discover the fascinating world of nocturnal birds in the museum's watching gallery tour. Spot owls and nightjars that are found in Australasia, North America and Eurasia.

When: 11:30am to 12pm, and 1:30pm to 2pm every day.

Owl sketching

You can call me owl is a workshop for budding artists. Visit the owl and frogmouth display in the Melbourne Museum foyer, and draw your own take-home memory of these beautiful nocturnal birds.

When: 11am to 3:00pm every day.

Night space activity

Visit Melbourne Museum's activity rooms to experience what a nocturnal soundscape is like. This time, your children can experience the animal sounds of a summer night, but in the middle of the day.

When: 11am to 3:00pm every day.

Then of course, there is the rest of Melbourne Museum to explore, including the fabulous Children's Gallery, Dinosaur Walk, First People's Gallery, and more.

The Melbourne Museum is open daily from 10am to 5pm, closed on Christmas Day.

Entry fees: free for under 16 years and $14 for adults.

Go to: museumvictoria.com.au for more information.
The week-long program features workshops, seminars, demonstrations and special events which will have you exploring culture through food and getting you inspired about all things homemade.
