I am always on the look-out for low-cost, fun adventures to have with my boys.
One of our favourites is a tram ride. Sounds simple but the kids love it.
Living in the outer suburbs of Melbourne, it is all too easy to throw the kids in the car to get from A to B.
Every so often, I drive to Burwood One, Maroondah Highway to park the car (3-hour free parking) and jump on the number 75 tram to Camberwell.

This tram ride is long enough (about 25 minutes) to keep Mr 4 and Mr 2 entertained as they watch on in awe of the comings and goings of a busy tram line.
Here comes the tram!
I try to make the trip as exciting an engaging as possible by ask the kids to tell me when our stop is coming up. This means that they have to listen to the announcements and can also follow the tram line map (these are available on trams).
Their reward is a chocolate milkshake and cookie at a café of their choice when we get to Camberwell junction, which they have to ask for themselves.
On the return trip, I ask them to find the tram stop and see if they can see our tram coming.
It’s a great outing to help give kids confidence in the big wide world and understand that there is more to going out than jumping in the car!
Sometimes it’s the simple things that we take for granted that give kids the most enjoyment.
You might also like to try a train trip or a bus trip. Young kids will love the adventure.
