Kinglake Raspberries

by Lorraine A (follow)
I don't think there's anything sweeter than hand-picked raspberries straight from the bush, they taste better than anything you're likely to find at any supermarket or greengrocer and it comes with the satisfaction of getting out into the country, breathing in the fresh air, supporting a local farmer and teaching your kids about where food comes from.

At Kinglake Raspberry farm you can expect a real farm experience; there's no retail shop, cafe or minibus to transport you to the picking field like some of the other big berry farms. Here you will find just a simple market tent with a set of scales, a friendly face and paddocks filled with rows upon rows of raspberry bushes/canes.

There is no entry fee, which is a bonus for big families. They welcome you to sample the raspberries as you pick but don't get too carried away, it's their livelihood.

Raspberries cost $20 per kg which is great value given a 125gram pack in the supermarket is around $4-5 if not more and you get added bonus of turning it into a day out.

Our kids loved picking the berries here and didn't actually want to leave after an hour!

For more information on Kinglake Raspberry Farm, visit their website here or to check raspberry availability, look at their Facebook page here.

The 25 hectare raspberry farm is located at the end of Tooheys Rd, Pheasant Creek VIC 3757.

Also in the area is the Bollygum Playground, which is a perfect picnic/BBQ spot.
