Free Public Seminar: Raising Bilingual Children

Are your children living in a bilingual or multilingual household? Are you interested in learning some useful tools to foster your child’s language learning? If so, you might be interested in registering for the following seminar.



The University of Melbourne's Research Unit for Multilingualism and Cross-Cultural Communication will host a FREE seminar in November, discussing issues in raising children bilingually.

The Raising Children in More Than One Language Seminar will take place on Sunday 20 November 2016, at the Sidney Myer Asia Centre, University of Melbourne, Swanston Street.



Over the course of the day, from 1:15pm to 5:00pm, you will be presented with sessions to maximise the advantages of bilingual parenting.

The day will be broken down as follows:

Registration desk opens 12:30pm

Session One (1:30-2:30pm);

Issues in Raising Children Bilingually presented by Dr. Susanne Döpke.

Understanding and Achieving Early Literacy: Practical Tips presented by Sarah Pavy

Session Two (2:30-3:45pm);

Practical Suggestions for Helping Your Child Learn your Language presented by Dr. Susanne Döpke

or

Q&A Panel: Bilingual Programs at Work - Lessons from 3 Schools in Melbourne with Dr. Averil Grieve, Janet Gale and Sheryl Hall

Afternoon tea (3:45-4:15pm)

Session Three (4:15-5pm):

Community in Action: Why Multiculturalism is Good for Everyone Led by Prof John Hajek.
