Frankston Sharks BMX Club

by Lorraine A (follow)
If your kids love riding their bikes around, but seem a little bored with the local parks and footpaths, then maybe it's time to get them involved in their local BMX club?

My two boys are currently obsessed with their BMX and mountain bikes. They want to jump everything, do 'skids' everywhere and go as fast as they can... you guessed it, EVERYWHERE!
So, recently we took them down to the Sharks 'come and try' open day in Frankston, and not surprisingly, it was a huge success.

Our kids all joined in, including our 4 year old girl riding her little pink and red toddler bike. In fact, she was more confident than the boys and was grinning from ear to ear the entire time.

All of the kids participated in a free, one hour coaching session that was divided into age categories. They were taught a few basics about riding on the track and how to position themselves in the start gates. After the session their confidence was pretty high so they continued to ride laps of the track until they were exhausted.

Since then, the kids haven't stopped asking about when they can go back.
It seems we have another sport to add to the growing list of after school activities!

What to wear
Long pants or track pants (fitted at the ankle) are acceptable to race in.
Long sleeve top or race jersey.
Any type of full fingered gloves.
Fully enclosed shoes.
A full face helmet that covers the ears (loan ones are available for use at the track).

Any 20 or 24inch BMX bike with mudguards, chain guards, kick stands, pegs and reflectors removed. Handlebar grips that fully cover and enclose the metal.

Membership Options
There is a 4 month option for anyone that wants to try it and see if they like it (It costs around $40).
Mini Wheelers membership (2- 4y.o using balance bikes)
Sprockets (5 - 7y.o participation class including a sprocket pack from BMXA)
Open memberships from 8y.o and above.

Coaching sessions are held every Wednesday night for an hour at 4:30pm and 5:30pm (must be booked a week in advance) and cost $12.

Open Days will be listed on the Frankston Sharks BMX club Facebook Page when they are next holding the event.

I highly recommend this family friendly club for kids of all ages.
