Mini golf has evolved; you only need to visit Dingley Village Adventure Golf to see that.

If your childhood memories of miniature golf are much like mine, then you'll probably recall a round of crazy golf or pitch and putt courses with 9 or 18 holes. Said miniature golf courses would come decorated with small kitsch plastic objects, such as the obligatory windmill and some plastic animals here and there.

The gods answered my 7yr old's request to visit a mini golf centre recently, when he received a birthday invitation to attend a Dingley Village Adventure Golf party with his friends.

Dropping off my son at the aforementioned party, and I'm kicking myself for not knowing of this majestic place sooner.

Dingley Village Adventure Golf has a sort of 'piratey' feel about the indoor course, and there isn't a plastic animal in sight! I can only image what a child must think when they arrive at such a place.

What I liked about Dingley Village Adventure Golf, is the all-weather option of choosing to play the 18 hole outdoor course, indoor, or both. 'The Chasm', is the indoors course, on a multi-level, featuring a waterwheel. 'The Creek' is an outdoor adventure in a landscaped setting surrounding a lake.

Prices are really reasonable for a family morning or afternoon day out, and there's a few outdoor picnic tables if you want to bring your own food. If you do choose the book a party for your kids, there are party rooms you can book in advance.

Because, little known to me, Dingley Village Adventure Golf is a popular spot, the courses can get quite busy over the weekend or school holidays. Go early or late to avoid the rush.

Where: Cnr Centre & Lower Dandenong Rds, Dingley Village, Kingston, Victoria 3172
When: Mon-Thurs: 7am to 8pm, Fri-Sat: 7am to 9pm, Sun 7am to 8pm
Cost: (18-hole) Family $45 otherwise adult prices are $15 and child prices $11. Toddlers under 3 are $8.
