Children's Book Week 2016
As parents, we all know the importance of reading to our children from a young age.
There are untold amounts of benefits including:
Improves a child's communications skills and imagination
Nurtures a strong relationship with the parent and the child
Teaches kids the basics of reading a book
Makes reading fun and not something that kids feel is something they 'have to do'
Each year school children up and down the country take time out to celebrate the joy and wonder of books and reading as part of Children's Book Week.
Book Week is run by the Children's Book Council and celebrates and awards authors for outstanding books for children.
As part of the celebrations, schools also encourage their students to take part in a Book Character Parade where children will dress up as their favourite book.
This year Children's Book Week will run from 20th-26th August.
The theme for this year's book week is Australia! Story Country.
