Melbourne winters usually call for soups and hot chocolates, but if you want something warm in your tummy quickly, nothing beats a simple toasted sandwich aka jaffle.

Due to the popularity of the humble jaffle, most Melbourne households own a toastie maker / jaffle iron. If you don't, toasted sandwich makers are pretty reasonable, starting from as little as $20 in high street stores.

You can't go past a simple tomato or ham and cheese toastie on your plate, but if you fancy experimenting with your toasted sandwiches, how about you try one of the following 7 winning jaffle combos for Melbourne winters:

Peanut Butter and Banana Jaffle

- 2 slices of bread
- peanut butter
- banana (sliced)
- honey
- sprinkle of cinnamon / nutmeg

Add the above to your jaffle and you've got a mighty fine and nutritious sweet treat.

Cowboy Jaffle

- 2 slices of bread
- baked beans
- grated cheese
- shredded ham
- a little butter

Baked beans in your jaffle? You better believe it. Recipe, seen here Yee-ha!

Chicken Avocado & Camembert

- 2 slices of bread
- cooked chicken pieces
- 1 avocado
- Camembert cheese

Mix cooked chicken pieces with mashed avocado and Camembert inside your winter jaffle, and melt your troubles away! Seen here

Breakfast Jaffle

- 2 slices of bread
- an egg (pre-fried or scrambled)
- a tomato, sliced
- a mushroom, sliced
- grated cheese

Melbournians love a good brekkie, so why not throw your breakfast ingredients into a toasted sandwich, and extend your favourite meal of the day out to lunchtime (or beyond).

Ricotta & Berry Jaffle

- 2 slices of bread
- a handful of fresh or frozen berries
- ricotta cheese
- white chocolate melts if you want extra sweet
- icing sugar to dust

What you've got here ladies and gents, is a quick and easy dessert jaffle for the kids and sweet-tooth family members. Omit the white chocolate if you wish, or add maple syrup as a topping.

Do you love a jaffle? What's your favourite combo?
